We hope that everyone had a wonderful February break and enjoyed their Family Day.
It was another short week for the fourth graders in Humanities. We spent much of the week finishing up projects and assignments that needed more attention before report cards are written and sent home on March 3rd. In addition to those projects, the 4.3/4.4 pod worked on their 6+1 Trait writing samples, focusing on word choice and sentence fluency. Students from all grade 4 class continued their efforts on their "Explain Everything" spelling tricks and Writers Workshop, as well as publishing reading journals and projects to their class "Kidblog!"
We are excited to start our new Social Studies endeavour next week with five full days. To begin, we will be inquiring into what components aid in the creation of identity and community.

iPads
As of late, many iPads have been brought to school with low battery, missing chargers or have simply not been brought at all. Some students have reset passwords or downloaded non-school apps.
We want to ensure that fourth graders are charging their iPads when and if brought home for the evening to ensure that they are ready to go the next day at school. We also ask that the iPad is treated as an educational tool even when out of the school building.
If iPads continue to stay at home or come without being charged, we will simply have to keep iPads at the school and refuse certain students the privilege of taking them home. While we believe this is a students responsibility, we are looking for support to ensure all students are equipped with their machines each day and that all use is appropriate.
Thank you!

Humanities Student Teacher
Hello parents! As you may have been hearing at home my name is Mr. Pollard and I will be the student teacher in Ms. Fawcett's classroom for the next four weeks. I am currently in my third year of studies at Mount Royal University in the Bachelor of Education - Elementary program. I bring with me a humanities specialty along with a minor in TESL (Teaching English as a Second Language). I am very excited to have the opportunity to teach your children along with being at the Connect Charter School as it is a great place to learn!
Best regards,
Mr. Pollard
