This week in Humanities, Grade four students began researching one of the six natural regions that Alberta is home to. Students have been asked to use a variety of sources to find information including text books, websites and online reference centres to learn more about their region. Some of the guiding questions that fourth graders have been given include, "What is the climate of this region?,What are the major resources in this area?, What are the major centres found in this region? and What are the environmental issues in this region?" We will continue this exploration and share our findings in the coming weeks. In addition to our work in Social Studies, we have also been diligent in reflecting on our Readers and Writers Workshop skills as we near the end of term. A document listing the seven reading comprehension strategies and a short definition of each has been added below, for both parents and students to reference.
We also had a Halloween Party on Thursday afternoon, where students had the choice of a Halloween craft or a Halloween themed movie (Monsters University & The Corpse Bride). Grade four students had a huge variety of choices for snacks and treats in the afternoon. As a thank- you to all parents who arranged costumes and treats, please enjoy the Halloween Poem above!
An email inviting parents to a CSS Edmodo Help Session was sent out earlier this week. We strongly encourage all grade 4 parents who have had any issues or difficulties with this application to attend. Please bring a laptop or iPad (this can even be your child's school device). The session will be held in the IAC on Tuesday, November 5th from 6-7pm.
As we near the end of our first term of the 2013-2014 school year, both report cards and Parent/ Teacher interviews are just around the corner. More information on scheduling times will be available shortly. These 15 minute meetings will take place on Thursday, November 21st and Friday, November 22nd. Report cards will be sent home on Monday, November 18th.
