Math this week took a look at another multi-step problem that focused on spatial reasoning skills. Students explored the Karate Frog word problem and had to find a way that Sammo could make it to the doctor's office. The problem used several steps focusing on patterns, numbers, and equations. If you would like to see the problem please visit the Edmodo page of your son/daughter and look under the Math Folder. Give it a try!
Waste & Our World
Our Science inquiry took us into the world of research and the web. Students explored their topic and started to narrow down what they would be focusing on as an issue. While they were looking at websites we started to ask the question How do you know this information is true? Many websites offer so many opinions and ways to look at these hot topics so looking for the truth behind the opinion was where we focused. Students were encouraged to ask questions like:
1 - Should I get a second opinion? If the website was questionable they were to find another website that supported the same argument.
2 - Ask someone? If they were unsure, was there a place to contact the website's source?
3 - Was it a reliable source? Where was the site published? Is it an agency or by an individual?
All of these questions prompted some heated discussions around what was already a heated topic!
Next Friday we will be hiking to Weaselhead and participating in an Adopt-A-Plot activity! Please be sure to send them in the appropriate clothing that day... even if it snows!
4.1/4.3 will be going in the morning and leaving the school around 9 am.
4.2/4.4 will be going in the afternoon and leaving the school around 12:45 pm.
