This week, as well as last, Grade 4 students were active in their pursuit of answering the question, "Is Spelling Important?" During our Humanities time students developed comic strips illustrating the dangers of spelling incorrectly, with titles such as "Die vs Dye" and "Puppy vs Poppy". Our inquiry into spelling and its importance will be ongoing this year.
Grade fours in the 4.1/4.2 pod also started penning some Camp Sweet Reflections about their time spent away and what their best memories are.
We also used some of our Humanities time to do out first "Star Reading Assessment" of the year. CSS will be using this application school wide. These assessments will be used as a tool to gauge student growth within learning comprehension, as well as a way to develop helpful strategies for all students within their reading. These assessments are not tests and will not be used as a means of report card evaluation. We will revisit "Star" once each term, for a total of 3 assessments throughout the year.
