In Science this week, we continued exploring Simple Machines through building with Lego and K'Nex. The students switched kits and were given the opportunity to build with different materials. Some of the comments from the students have been enlightening:
"I can't get this Lego apart, do you have a wedge?"
"The tighter the elastic, the faster the gear moves"

What a week! We've also had many guest speakers come into our classrooms this week as a lead up to the Peace Festival. We all learned so much about the many organizations in our community that are going out of their way to help others. Some of the groups that have been in are: Ethan and Colton Drage, Youth Central, Between Friends, Calgary Drop in Center, Opps-A-Daisy Animal Rescue, Tumaini Hope, Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society.
Next week is our Annual Peace Festival. Monday afternoon kicks it off with an assembly, Tuesday - Wednesday is jammed packed with various activities and Thursday wraps up with our class parties and assembly.
Some classes will be skating during this time. Please watch your agendas for times. We would like to have some parent volunteers to help with skates and supervision on the ice. You do not need to be a skater to volunteer.
All grade 4's will be visiting the activities in the gym on Wednesday, December 18. There are a couple of booths that require pocket money. (Make buttons for Peace $2, Candy Grams $.50 etc) All proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
We will be having our class parties on Thursday and have decided to eliminate the waste of food and the over abundance of sweets. We will not be asking for snacks this time around. Thank you!
Just a reminder to dress for the weather. We do spend time outside most days. Please have toques, mitts, snow pants and warm coats.
It's going to be a wonderful and fun week!
