Math this week focused on finishing off our unit in Time. Students used their homemade clocks to review and practice the 12hr & 24hr analogue clocks. In looking at 'Time' we spoke about the use of numbers on a clock and what they represent. Watch for an assignment next week where students have to demonstrate their understandings!
Science was the main focus this week as we started the ball rolling on their new Waste and Our World Inquiry. Students are exploring the different topics in Waste and starting to dig deeper into the issues within them. In class they brainstormed many concepts they felt connected to over the last few weeks and the emerging themes focused on the following main topics: Composting, Energy & Air Pollution, Water Pollution, Recycling Programs, Forests, and Plastics. Over these next few weeks students will delve into these and start looking at ways they can inspire action in others. Some of our initial research has introduced us to forest fires that are caused due to campfires that were not put out properly, logging in the West Bragg Creek Area, why water needs a 'boil-water advisory', etc. We are looking forward to seeing what the groups come up with!
Final groups will be made based on students interest and should be assigned early next week! If you have some expertise in any of these areas please let either Mrs. Melville or Mrs. Paxton know.
