Fourth graders were quite busy this week upon returning from a (hopefully restful) long weekend.
In Humanities, students are actively using their research on one of Alberta's natural regions to complete Pic Collage Posters to share with the class. Students have been asked to use a variety of text and image to illustrate their knowledge about one of the six natural regions in our province. When grade fours were not working on their Social Studies projects, there was time for Writers Workshop and the finishing up of some missed assignments.
Among those assignments were our ongoing "Evidence of Learning" Inventories. Students have been asked to reflect and provide evidence of their use of Reading & Writing Skills, Supporting & Enhancing Community and Technology. These documents will not only inform some report card comments but have also been used to create students "SLP's" for fourth grade. SLP's (Student Learning Plans) are living documents that will be altered throughout the school year to reflect on each students needs, strengths and challenges as a learner at CSS. These documents will follow students throughout their time at Calgary Science School, taking many different forms until the end of ninth grade. This term, students have begun to create video diary's reflecting on their learning. We have looked exclusively at the "Who We Are" section of the Exemplary Learning Framework, as we feel this area has been most focused on in our first term.

Report cards will be going home at the end of the day on Monday, November 18th. On Monday, sign up for Parent/ Teacher interviews will also be open to parents. These interviews will take place on Thursday, November 21st (From 12:30- 8:00pm) and on Friday, November 22nd (From 8am-1pm). Interview slots are only 15 minutes FIRM. If you are late for your appointment, we will only be able to use the time left in order to accommodate all parents.
