Design-A-Toy:
It has been an amazing week of discovery as the grade 4's have begun their build stage of "Design a Toy". In taking their designs and building/testing their product, students have been navigating through any challenges they have encountered. The learning process of testing and tweaking the design has come to light! We've all realized that even though this project is a lot of fun, there are many challenges we are facing in being an engineer.
As the students are building their toy they are also required to complete a write up, which includes a step-by-step procedure, of the process, changes that are occurring in the design and what struggles that they have faced. The completion of both the toy and the completed write up is due Friday, January 24th. Thank you to all the parents who have helped their child in compiling materials and brainstorming items, remembering this is to be built in class.

Journaling in Math:
Math journals took a new shape this week as we co-constructed a checklist that students are now using to work through their problems. Following something that the grade 6's did in their classes, we paired two classes together and took a look at 'What counts in an organized notebook?'
Continuing with Number Operations we worked through some word problems and thought we would share one below!
Mrs. Paxton and Mrs. Melville LOVE to read! The book they are reading has 107 pages. They are on page 64. How many more pages do they need to read to finish the book? Once you think you have found an answer, verify your thinking with a different strategy. Is your answer reasonable? Why or why not?
