In Humanities this week, grade four students continued their discussions surrounding what they know and want to know about Alberta. We decided to first look at where Alberta is located in our world. Using both "Google Earth" and "Google Maps", students began to make connections about where their province is on the globe. Students were able to decipher who our neighbours are to the North, East, South and West, what continent, country and hemisphere we are located in and also managed to find some very unique facts about our coordinates. In the coming weeks, we will focus on the land of Alberta, its six natural regions and varying landscape and what types of natural resources are found there. From our conversation surrounding resources, we will be able to branch out to discuss what industries populate each region. We hope to look at how our raw resources become consumer products and how this, in turn, effects our way of life as Albertans. Alongside our Social Studies inquiry, both Readers and Writers Workshops will continue.
