MATHEMATICAL ADVENTURES:
This week we began our adventure with Robert and his Number Devil. In two nights of sleepy dreams we explored why there is a zero in math and how everything in math begins with the number 1. Everything. Students were skeptical at first about how everything starts with 1 but as our Number Devil explains… "If you are afraid of large numbers - let's say five million severn hundred and twenty-three thousand eight hundred and twelve - all you have to do is start with 1+1+1+1+1+1…."
LAST WEEK...
For those of you who left a reply on our blog thank you for living within the struggle of math! We had a couple people close - congrats to Stacy Veilleux who was our closest person! The final answer to 123, 456, 789, 612, 345.67891 reads as:
WORMS AT WORK & TRI-FOLDS:
Monday morning we started of our week with a visit from the 'Worm Lady'. Mrs. Allen-Smith came in from the organization Worms at Work and explored how worms help with decomposing materials and create worm castings that help our gardens. Students learned why worms are so important to our ecosystem and what role they play in composting. Students were able to get dirty too!
Our Environmental Expo is taking place in the library, on Nov 29th from 1-2:30 and you are welcome to join us! If you didn't receive the invite from your son/daughter check it out on Edmodo for the details! Students have been hard at work finishing their tri-fold displays and the last 'tweaks' on iMovies, Keynote Presentations, Petitions, and Action Plans!
We are looking forward to seeing you on the 29th!
