We had a wonderful week in grade four Humanities. We spent some time with our current Writers Workshop projects before engaging in our new Social Studies unit. Our inquiry has begun with the question, "What factors contribute to identity?". To start, fourth graders were asked to brainstorm what gives them their identity. We spent time in large groups engaging in discussions and finding similarities among one another. Once we had shared our similarities, we developed categories that we thought helped to create our identity. Some of these contributors included: Major Events, Role Models, Family History, Languages, School & Education, Travel and more! We have asked that fourth graders focus on one of those categories and bring in an artifact that illustrates a connection to their identity, i.e.: If a child celebrates a different holiday, they may bring in an ornament, or if a student speaks another language at home, a book written in that language would be a great artifact. Students will begin sharing their artifacts next week. We ask that whatever is brought in can bereft at the school for a few days.
Student Led Conferences
We also want to remind parents of our upcoming Student Led Conferences for Term 2. We will not be following our Parent/ Teacher Interview format as we did in our first term. Instead, your child will be able to walk you through their projects and daily tasks from term 2, with our focus being on the "What We Do" section of our Exemplary Learning Framework. These conferences run on Thursday, March 6th from 4pm-8pm, and again on Friday, March 7th from 8am-1pm.
